If you've got an iPhone 16 and you're thinking about selling, here's what it's worth this fall. These are real prices from the marketplaces and buyback companies I track every day, not a trade-in estimate built to sell you a new phone.
The short version: the base iPhone 16 is the one worth selling yourself. On the Pro models, the best buyback offer is close enough that listing it may not be worth your time.
Quick answer
In Good condition and unlocked, base storage:
- iPhone 16 (128GB): about $560 on the used market, $506 on Swappa, $396 best buyback offer
- iPhone 16 Plus (128GB): about $589, $505 on Swappa, $463 best buyback offer
- iPhone 16 Pro (128GB): about $648, $551 on Swappa, $487 best buyback offer
- iPhone 16 Pro Max (256GB): about $765, $670 on Swappa, $604 best buyback offer
What the numbers mean
Used market is the median across the 4 to 6 marketplaces with a price that day. Many of those sellers are refurbishers with warranties, so this is closer to what a buyer pays than what you'd get.
Swappa listing is the price a buyer sees on Swappa, including their 3% buyer fee.
Swappa after fees is what you'd keep from that sale. Swappa takes 3% of your asking price, and PayPal takes 3.49% plus $0.49 of the order. That's about 9% of the listed price, before shipping. I break this down in what you actually keep when you sell.
Best buyback offer is the highest offer I found from the buyback companies I track.
iPhone 16 prices by storage
All prices are Good condition, unlocked.
| Storage | Used market | Swappa listing | Swappa after fees | Best buyback offer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 128GB | $560 | $506 | $458 | $396 |
| 256GB | $595 | $541 | $490 | $436 |
| 512GB | $689 | $644 | $584 | $467 |
iPhone 16 Plus prices by storage
| Storage | Used market | Swappa listing | Swappa after fees | Best buyback offer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 128GB | $589 | $505 | $457 | $463 |
| 256GB | $625 | $613 | $555 | $505 |
| 512GB | $666 | $499 | $452 | $541 |
Ignore that 512GB Swappa number. There are only 11 listings, it sat at $567 for the week before, and it looks like one cheap listing is dragging it down. At 128GB, though, the buyback offer really does beat Swappa after fees.
iPhone 16 Pro prices by storage
| Storage | Used market | Swappa listing | Swappa after fees | Best buyback offer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 128GB | $648 | $551 | $499 | $487 |
| 256GB | $711 | $567 | $514 | $527 |
| 512GB | $761 | $639 | $579 | $567 |
| 1TB | $792 | $721 | $653 | $638 |
iPhone 16 Pro Max prices by storage
| Storage | Used market | Swappa listing | Swappa after fees | Best buyback offer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 256GB | $765 | $670 | $607 | $604 |
| 512GB | $823 | $744 | $674 | $662 |
| 1TB | $854 | $845 | $766 | $752 |
The 1TB offers are thinner. Only 2 buybacks quoted them, and they were far apart on the Pro Max ($752 and $538).
Storage doesn't pay like it did at the Apple Store. The 16 Pro cost $500 more at 1TB than at 128GB. Used, that gap is about $144.
Sell it yourself or take the buyback?

Here's my take. On the base iPhone 16, list it. You'd keep about $62 more at 128GB and $117 more at 512GB, and that's real money for a little work.
On the Pro and Pro Max, I'd take the buyback unless you enjoy selling. Swappa after fees is within about $15 either way at every storage size, and you'd still pay for shipping and deal with a buyer. For the longer argument, see trade-in vs selling yourself.
One warning: a buyback offer depends on the phone passing their inspection, so grade your condition carefully.
How condition changes the price
The tables are all Good condition. Across the 16 lineup:
- Mint usually sells for about 2% to 15% more on the marketplaces, and gets 5% to 19% more from the best buyback offer.
- Fair sells for up to about 8% less on the marketplaces. The best buyback offer drops up to 14%, though on some 16 Pro storage sizes it didn't drop at all.

Is now a good time to sell?

Daily medians can hop around (the base 16 moved $25 in a single day recently), so weekly numbers tell you more. The base 16 has stayed between about $540 and $575 since March. The 16 Pro has been in a similar holding pattern, between about $635 and $675.
The Pro Max is the one to watch. It fell from about $829 in mid-September to about $765 now, and the slide started right around when the iPhone 18 Pro models came out. If you've got a Pro Max, I wouldn't wait around.
For scale, the 16 lineup still holds about 64% to 70% of its launch price at two years old. The iPhone 15 models are around 47% to 50% at three years.
Things that knock the price down
- A carrier lock. The best buyback offer drops about 15% to 25% on a locked 16. Details in locked vs unlocked prices.
- Battery health. Buyers check it, so know your number before you list.
- A cracked screen or back. That's a damaged phone, not a Fair one, and it's priced very differently.
- Activation lock. Sign out of iCloud and erase it before you sell.
Common questions
How much is a used iPhone 16 worth?
About $560 in Good condition, unlocked, with 128GB, based on the median across the used marketplaces. It's listed around $506 on Swappa, and the best buyback offer is about $396.
How much is an iPhone 16 Pro Max worth used?
About $765 for the 256GB model in Good condition, unlocked. It's listed around $670 on Swappa, and the best buyback offer is about $604.
Is it better to sell an iPhone 16 or trade it in?
For the base iPhone 16, selling it yourself usually pays more. For the Pro and Pro Max, the best buyback offer is within about $15 of what you'd keep on Swappa, so I'd take the easy money.
Will the iPhone 16 lose more value soon?
The base model and the Pro have been flat for months, so there's no rush. The Pro Max has been sliding this fall, so I'd sell that one sooner.
